Today we have one of the Ninety Nine cards (of Swords), from the Tarot of the Silicon Dawn (Lo Scarabeo 2011).

This is possibly my favourite of the Ninety Nines - it strikes me as being so playful.  It's like, "Oops, did I set off the destruction of the planet with my little red balloon?"  If the Ten of Swords is often seen as overkill, the Ninety Nine of Swords is such extreme measures we just have to laugh at the ridiculousness of it.  Though you can't see it very clearly in the scan, the red balloon has a star on it, matte to the gloss of the varnish.  That reminds me of the Soviet flag, and therefore of the whole McCarthy era witch hunts - a perfect case in point.

At a more personal level, I guess I see this card as saying, there are so many ideas, thoughts, worries, miscommunications or whatever in this situation that really you just have to throw your hands up and declare it a lost cause.  Wipe the slate clean and start afresh.  Step outside of the box and let your imagination have free reign, because the way you're going right now - trying to rationalise, analyse and understand things - is so not working!  If you feel the weight of the world is on your shoulders, or that everyone has it in for you, well, you need to let it all go, re-find a sense of innocence and fun, and laugh at the whole situation.

I am grateful for the reminder that very few things are really all that serious in cosmic terms.

  1. What an interesting deck and interpretation to go along with it. Very nice blog. :)

  2. Thanks :) It is a lovey and very unusual deck. There's a video showing the whole deck, in which you can see the varnish effects. Take a look at the link above if you're interested :)
